General Definition and Conditions of Work: Responsible for providing financial services to the general public through the Treasurer's Office. Perform financial duties in order to accurately maintain Town finances in regards to the Treasurer's Office. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks: Provide customer service; provide assistance and information related to Town taxes, fees, permits, forms or other issues; respond to routine questions, research problems and initiate problem resolution. Assist customers in person, by telephone, or by mail. Calculate total of customer tax bills; research amount of delinquent taxes due; calculate penalties and interest. Collects payment for real estate property taxes, personal property taxes, business license fees, Town permit fees, or other taxes/fees; post payments in computer to proper individual accounts. Balance daily cash drawers; reconcile cash, checks, charges, and receipts. Prepare daily deposit of cash/checks. Receive, verify, and process deposits from various Town departments. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to operate standard office, word processing and data entry equipment at a highly proficient level. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to meet deadlines and work through frequent interruptions and inquiries. Ability to make mathematical computations accurately. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion. Ability to work independently and as a team. Effective verbal and listening communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated organizational skills with a strong attention to detail. Proficient understanding and knowledge of customer service best practices. Knowledge of the methods and practices of accounting. Physical Abilities and Demands: Ability to work in an office setting including, but not limited to, the ability to walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time; repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist. Ability to exert light physical effort, usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds). Education, Experience and Licenses: Completion of a standard high school diploma, or equivalent GED program. Minimum of two years' experience in customer service, accounting, banking, or related field. Post secondary education in accounting, administration, finance, or related field is preferred. Any combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
