Building Permit Technician and Program Assistant

Description:
Position Description: Under general supervision, performs technical administrative duties for the Community Development and Building Department. Provides professional, timely, and accurate responses to the public, internal Town departments, or other organizations utilizing multiple communication methods, such as in-person, telephone, or email from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday with a 1-hour lunch break daily. Possession of or ability to obtain specific certifications as required by the Board of Housing and Community Development per Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code for Permit Technician. Skills and Requirements: Provides information regarding Building Department, Engineering Department and Community Development information such as permits, scheduling inspection appointments and organizing pre-application meetings. Providing general customer service and answering questions about the Town's permitting process and requirements. Performs initial review of permit applications for the required minimum information and completeness and determines appropriate workflow. Coordinates, creates and obtains the needed documents such as site plans, building plans, plumbing, electrical plans and other information as needed. Monitors permit workflow to ensure continuation within the office and after issuance, issues permits and certificates of occupancy. Communicates with homeowners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding permit application status and any corrective actions necessary for permit issuance. Work with our Edmunds Data Management permitting systems to ensure data is entered timely, track, and research permits, plans, and inspections and maintain a variety of records and files. Ability to utilize or learn GIS Foster relationships with the jurisdictions we work with to achieve great working relationships.
