The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting applications for a Program Coordinator in the Senior Services division of Parks and Recreation at Memorial Park Community Center. Specific duties for this position include oversight of fitness classes for seniors requiring development and teaching of a variety of fitness classes, oversight of senior sports programs, hiking and dancing programs and assisting with the fitness orientations in the fitness room. Employee performs intermediate paraprofessional work responsible for all aspects of programming and special events and performing beginning level and specialized recreation work in the active instruction and supervision of senior activities; does related work as required. Job duties include administrative responsibilities of scheduling of staff and events; performing as a coordinator, instructor or supervisor in a specialized field; does related work as required. The Program Coordinator reports to the Senior Services Manager. Requirements for Education and Exp erience: completion of high school or GED, preferably supplemented by college level course work in physical education, recreation or other social sciences and four [4] years of experience in team or group organized recreation activities. Previous experience in programming and customer service; general knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements of a variety of cultural, educational and recreation activities; fundamental knowledge of group games, fitness and sports; general knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public education and recreation programs, games and interactive programs; leading and instructing groups in programs and activities; ability to resolve differences between participants in an impartial manner; ability to interact tactfully with the public, as well as to stimulate interest in and appreciation for various phases of the programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
